NBIC Pressure Vessel Alteration and Installation of U Tube Bundle for Service Change

• Reason for Alteration: The alteration is due to a change in the item's service.
• Alteration Description: Service change from closed drain vessel to crude oil heater by installing a U tube bundle in one of the vessel head.
• Capacity: The pressure vessel has 10 ft OD and 20 ft S/S, manufactured by others with ASME U stamp.
• Original Construction Code: ASME BPVC Sec. VIII Div. 1.
• Repair Code: NBIC Part 3.
• Original Materials: Vessel shell: SA-516-70, Heads: SA-516-70.
• New Materials: Channel shell and head: SA-516-70, Nozzles: SA-106-B/SA-516-70, Bridas: SA-105N, U-Tubes: SA-179.
• Solution: Design and installation of a 47”OD nozzle on the right head, in which an U-type tubular bundle and its channel were installed. This tubular bundle and its channel were designed, manufactured and certified as an ASME U-part. The 47”OD nozzle installed on the head was an alteration made in accordance with NBIC Part 3 and certified R.
• Scope: Design, drawings, material procurement, qualification of WPS’s and welders, fabrication of U-tube bundle, fabrication and installation of new 47”OD nozzle in vessel, QA/QC activities, NDE, hydrostatic test on shell side and tube side, Certification and R Stamping.
